Growth Mindset


 The Growth Mindset.  I have never heard of the growth mindset or Carol Dweck until now. I can understand why people support her ideas and learning tools. These videos bring a whole new world to kids and some adults who have seen learning or work one way their whole life. She thinks outside of the box and beyond.

I would love to take what I have learned from these videos and apply it to the subjects that I am struggling with. If we all keep working at a certain task or subject, I believe that we can all have the "not yet" perspective on life.

I was diagnosed with ADD about a year and a half ago. Before transferring to OU, classes were not that difficult for me at previous colleges. When I came to OU, I realized that I do not understand more difficult concepts as fast as everyone else. My short term memory is also lacking and memorization can be tough. But when I look at subjects with a more positive view than the alternative, I tend to do better. I enjoy studying accounting and like the difficulty, but it can be discouraging when I may struggle more than my classmates.

I will be very interested to learn about the growth mindset more during this semester.

    Hi Tabi! I agree with you that if we all keep working at a certain task we can all excel and achieve something if we put in the work. Growth mindset is definitely something that can be beneficial to all students, no matter what their major may be.

    Tabi,
    I think you make an excellent point in acknowledging that the growth mindset is useful for students of all ages, kids or adults. I think that, especially at the university level, we have this conception that the average student is under the age of 22 when that simply isn’t the case. Reframing how we think about students is key to instructors accessing growth mindset pedagogies.

Week 8 Comments and Feedback

I think that the feedback could be more constructive. I find that the comments that let me know if there is confusion or anything in the story help me the most. I believe that I am helping when it comes to grammar, but the content aspect could use improvement. I realize just how immense the possibilities can be when it comes to writing our weekly stories. I do not feel like I am getting to know people because I usually do not connect with people over the internet. I have to see and talk to people physically in order to feel like I have any sense of who they are. I am happy with my introduction post. I believe that I could look up more feedback strategies in order to benefit others and myself. I chose this particular graphic because it clearly states the adjectives that should describe your feedback style. It is concise and I like the colors. Reading Options

I would like to read stories that are popular, which I have not read yet. I like knowing the information when people use sayings or quotes from books or movies. Dante's Inferno Inferno This is a story I have wanted to read for a while now, not just because it is a video game. I am not sure what the story is about and I would love to find out for myself. There are many stories that I have either seen the movie or just heard a version of the story. I would like to explore these readings to find stories that entertain and keep my attention. Twenty-Two Goblins Twenty-Two Goblins is a story that I know I like so far. I started it last semester but did not get around to finishing it. I recommend it to anyone who likes stories that are a little unusual. Canterbury Tales I read a storybook last semester that made me want to read these tales. It focused on Death and it grabbed my attention almost immediately.
